ZF Lemförder, the Car Chassis Technology Division of Germany’s ZF Friedrichshafen, has won an award for the supply of chassis components to Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull facility, near Birmingham in the UK.

The Warwick Manufacturing Group Award for Logistics and Resource Efficiency was presented by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) at a recent event in London in recognition of the company’s high-quality, just-in-time delivery of parts to JLR’s assembly line for the Discovery 4 and Range Rover Sport.

The company also won the Barclays Corporate Award for Best Financial Management at the event.

Lemförder, which develops and produces chassis components, axle systems and shifting systems, manufacturers more than 70,000 parts a year for Jaguar Land Rover vehicles from its facility also in Solihull.

“Its four hour supply window for just-in-time delivery of complex chassis modules is a task in itself – but achieving this consistently, at extremely high quality levels, whilst not stopping the customer assembly line demands some of the best logistics systems and a strong delivery team. ZF Lemförder richly deserves to win both awards,” said Simon Griffiths, chief executive of the Manufacturing Advisory Service – West Midlands

Adrian Chell, site manager at the ZF facility in Solihull added: “Winning these MX awards is a great achievement and really gives the team the recognition they deserve for their efforts and passion to achieve excellence in a very difficult period. We have a showcase plant that has weathered a storm, but we believe we have confirmed our position as the number one chassis systems supplier in the UK.”
