General Motors has named Charlie Hyndman as vice-president of a new division in the company called Global Aftersales Supply Chain, Warehousing and Logistics. The division is designed to improve safety, quality, cost and customer service. It will bring together GM’s regional aftersales warehousing and align them with manufacturing operations around the world.

Working as an integrated team and led by Hyndman, the division will apply lean common processes to deliver benchmark levels of service to customers in every region, while reducing complexity and cost, according to the carmaker.

Hyndman will report to Stephen Hill, GM’s vice-president of Customer Care and Aftersales (CCA). This will allow the company to align Global Manufacturing and parts and service delivery work with CCA. The global team will be based at CCA headquarters in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

The company said this will enable CCA to help GM leverage and build upon the benchmark performance delivered by its North America Warehousing team in terms of safety quality, parts availability and cost.

Hyndman joined GM in 1977 and held several positions in plants across Canada and the US. In 2001, he was promoted to director, North American Warehousing & Distribution, with operations responsibility for 25 warehousing and distribution facilities in North America. He was then appointed executive director, Global Warehousing and Distribution in 2005. He also has operations responsibility for all CCA warehousing and distribution facilities, as well as global supply chain responsibilities to support 73 warehouses in 29 countries.
