Tony Gunn has been recruited as executive vice-president of Gefco’s freight forwarding division. He moves from his previous role at XPO Logistics as managing director of Europe and brings 25 years of experience in the logistics sector.
Gefco said his role would be to strengthen profitable growth in the company’s freight forwarding activity and expand its global position in industrial logistics.
A spokesperson confirmed that as head of freight forwarding, Gunn would have direct oversight of activity involving the company’s automotive customers.
"I am delighted to join the Gefco group," said Gunn. "I see numerous synergies within Gefco that will bring benefits to our customers, such as the development of strategic corridors and increasing digitalisation.”
Gunn began his career in purchasing and supply for the defence industry before moving over to the semi-conductor sector, where he was responsible for supply chain management for a leading American manufacturer in the US and Europe. He has headed major transformation projects in Europe, Asia and the USA, ranging from the establishment and operation of take-back centres for leading global e-commerce companies to sales management for life science laboratories within the US, including spare parts and bespoke delivery.
During his 16 years with XPO Logistics (formerly known as Menlo), Gunn headed a team that doubled the European region’s sales and profit.
Gefco opened a freight forwarding branch in Antwerp, Belgium at the beginning of March to strengthen its network in Europe.
