Finished vehicle carrier Acumen Automotive Logistics has released more information about its latest fleet investment designed to support new business from Jaguar Land Rover.
The company is investing £3.6m ($6m) in 20 new truck and trailer units to support an extended contract with the carmaker in the UK.
Acumen has bought 20 tractor units from Scania and 20 trailers from equipment provider Lohr. The Lohr trailers have been designed to carry eight Land Rovers or nine Jaguar vehicles according to Acumen, and the tractor units have been chosen for their low operating cost and fuel efficiency.
“After rigorous testing we chose the Scania primarily for its fuel economy but were also impressed with the innovative interior and driver comfort,” said Chris Doughty, Acumen’s managing director. “They provide our drivers with ample working space and an easy cab access.”
Last month the company announced it had secured new contracts with Jaguar Land Rover for the transport of vehicles from the carmaker’s plants in the UK Midlands to dealers in the south of the UK, as well as for delivery to ports of export. The contracts will mean the annual movement of 100,000 vehicles.
The contracts will run for three years during which time Acumen said it expected to treble its turnover based on the carmaker’s current level of growth. The contracts have the potential to be extended for a further two years.
