European logistics provider DSV is to expand its site in Venlo, the Netherlands, with a further 83,000 sq.m warehouse after acquiring a new plot of land adjacent to its existing facilities there.

The Danish-headquartered transport and logistics firm said the additional warehouse would be completed on the new 140,000 sq.m site in 2019 and would feature “a high level of automation, specifically geared towards [the] handling of small orders that are typical for e-commerce”.

Peter van der Maas, managing director of DSV Solutions Netherlands, said the expansion would bring total managed logistics operations in Venlo to over 210,000 sq.m, excluding DSV Road’s crossdocking terminal 2km to the south.

“We are expanding due to a strong growth in demand for logistics services in the region, notably fuelled by increased e-commerce activities,” added van der Maas.

A spokesperson for DSV has since confirmed the site “will also be available for automotive-related companies”.
