Gefco has expanded its operations in Spain with the opening of a new distribution centre near Ford’s Almussafes plant on the outskirts of Valencia and the extension of its spare parts logistics centre in Santa Fe.

From the 3,500 sq.m distribution centre, which is located in Sollana, Gefco will be carrying out order management, kitting and just-in-time services.

“Gefco Spain has rented this centre as an investment to expand its customer base in sectors that are experiencing strong economic growth, such as the automotive and consumer industries,” said a spokesperson for the transport and logistics provider. He added that there was currently high demand in Spain for logistics space.

The facility is in a strategic location on the Mediterranean Corridor next to the AP-7 and the A-7 motorways, 22km from the port of Valencia. It has a storage height of 10 metres and capacity for 4,500 pallets.

Meanwhile, it has expanded its parts logistics centre in Santa Fe, in the Granada region, to 3,000 sq.m to better handle aftermarket parts for Groupe PSA and deliver them more rapidly to the dealer and service centres in the region.

Gefco Spain now has 34 logistics centres in Spain serving customers across a range of sectors.

Earlier this month Gefco set up a joint venture with Spanish logistics provider Bergé to strengthen finished vehicle operations in Spain.
