Logistics providers Militzer & Münch and Andreas Schmid Logistik have formed a transport joint venture to offer regular services from Germany to the Maghreb region of North Africa and Iran.

MMAS Eurasia Logistics will establish several departures a week from Gersthofen, in Germany, where the company will be headquartered, to Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Iran.

“The joint venture with Andreas Schmid Logistik allows us to offer our customers additional transport capacities from Germany to Iran and the Maghreb region”, said Lothar Thoma, CEO of Militzer & Münch.

Both companies have been registering increasing demand for transport to the Maghreb region, he added. “Especially for the automotive and textile industries, the Maghreb is a major trade partner,” he commented.

“The joint venture gives us the optimal position to meet the increasing demand with a comprehensive range of services. We offer door-to-door transport solutions to Iran and the Maghreb states, including customs clearance and warehousing from a single source.”

Andreas Schmid Logistik will also benefit from Militzer & Münch’s nationwide distribution capability in Iran. Militzer & Münch, along with its local sister company, the PTB Group, has access to 15 depots and extensive warehousing space in the country, according to the company.

Gianluca Crestani, director at Andreas Schmid, said: “With a tightknit local network, we can offer our customers excellent service in Iran and the Maghreb states. Iran is opening up great prospects for German companies.”

Militzer & Münch operates in about 30 countries and offers air and sea freight services as well as road and rail transport. It has offices in Eastern Europe, the CIS, the Middle East and the Far East as well as in the Maghreb countries.

Last year, French carmakers Renault and PSA Group each announced production joint ventures in Iran as the country looked to increase foreign investment following the lifting of sanctions.
