Panopa Logistik’s division in Hungary has officially opened the 75,000-square-metre logistics optimisation centre it operates for services to Audi’s plant in Györ. The total investment is estimated at between €30-35m.
At an official opening ceremony held this week, Rudiger Buss, CEO of Panopa Logistik, said the inauguration of the centre marked another milestone for the development of Panopa in Eastern Europe.
Axel Schifferer, managing director of Finance at Audi Hungaria Motor and Károly Tallósi, managing director of A-K Épitöipari – the company that constructed the facility – joined Buss in officially opening the centre.
Panopa Logistik Magyar handles transport and logistics services including order picking, empties management and shuttle transport on behalf of Audi Hungaria. Components are delivered just-in-time to the carmaker’s €900m plant, 7km away, which makes the Coupe and Roadster versions of the Audi TT and the Audi A3 Cabriolet in conjunction with the company’s plant in Ingolstadt.
In June this year Audi added the A3 sedan, which was the first model to be completely assembled at the plant, and this month it also added the A3 Cabriolet to the production line. Assembly capacity is expected to reach 125,000 per year when the plant becomes fully operational in February next year.
The Györ plant also produces engines and last year produced a total of more than 1,915,000 for Audi and the wider VW Group.
Panopa also supports Mercedes-Benz production at the Kecskemét facility in Hungary. The company operates in eight locations in Eastern Europe. As well as Hungary it has facilities in Poland and the Czech Republic. The company is part of the Imperial Logistics International group and specialises in contract logistics services.
