German parts-maker Schaeffler has officially opened an 18,000 sq.m aftermarket assembly and packaging centre in Cuautitlán Izcalli, on the northern outskirts of Mexico City.
The new €5m ($5.6m) base can process more than 124,000 items a day through its receiving, packaging and shipping departments, according to the company.
Over 11,000 different components for cars, light and heavy utility vehicles and tractors will be picked, packed and dispatched at the aftermarket kitting operation (AKO). Its inventory comprises parts for clutch, clutch-release, engine, transmission and chassis systems for the North American and Latin American markets.
The company said the centre would significantly enhance its ability to offer greater speed, flexibility and delivery reliability to its aftermarket clients in Mexico, the US, Central America and South America.
“Schaeffler’s philosophy is to be ‘as local as possible and as centrally located as necessary’, which means we want to be as close to the customer as possible so that we can respond faster to local demand,” said Eric Steinbecher, president – automotive aftermarket for Schaeffler in the Americas.
