Skoda used its three-week summer shutdown to optimise and expand its production facilities in its Czech facilities at Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny, and Vrchlabí, with a focus on converting the plant at Kvasiny, which produces the Skoda Superb, Superb Estate and Yeti. Plans at Kvasiny include the construction of a new logistics hall.
Over the next few years Skoda plans to increase its production capacity at Kvasiny to 280,000 vehicles a year and has now begun to implement the relevant expansion projects. The OEM installed new equipment in the paint shop and rebuilt and expanded the production lines for car body construction. The assembly areas have also been expanded and modernised.
Modifications on the new logistics hall will continue as production restarts.
At Mlada Boleslav, Skoda’s main factory, the OEM focused on servicing and maintenance of its two production lines - the Octavia, and Fabia and Rapid. Skoda also performed maintenance measures in the press shop and body shop, installed a new cooling zone in the paint shop, and modernised the assembly system in the powertrain production area.
At the Vrchlabí plant, Skoda worked towards its goal of expanding production facilities for the DQ 200 gearbox, which is used by several Volkswagen brand vehicles. The OEM wants to increase capacity from 1,500 to 2,000 gearboxes a day by spring 2016.
