[UPDATED July 22] Daimler Truck’s division in south-east Asia has signed a five-year contract with TVS Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) to manage its logistics centre in Singapore. The logistics provider is tasked with streamlining the throughput of service parts to Daimler Truck’s distributor network of dealers and workshops across 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

At the Singapore parts distribution centre TVS SCS will move 8,000 SKUs and 65,000 order lines annually, storing a diverse range of parts. Daimler Truck South East Asia (DTSEA) has also contracted TVS SCS to transport the parts across the region by air, on ocean by full container load (FCL) and less than container load (LCL), and on road. That includes managing customs clearance and dangerous goods declarations.

Daimler Truck now benefits from a dedicated parts centre in Singapore

The parts are being supplied from three global plants: the Mercedes-Benz Truck plant in in Gemersheim, Germany; the Daimler Buses plant in Ulm, Germany; and the Mercedes-Benz plant in Brazil.

Daimler Trucks opened a regional centre in Singapore for commercial vehicle sales and services to the south Asia region back in 2016. The Daimler South East Asia (DSEA) facility has been supporting the sales and aftermarket demands for both Mercedes-Benz trucks, buses and vans and Fuso trucks and buses. However, the company is now opening a dedicated PDC with TVS SCS.

“Previously, the parts distribution was handled by Mercedes-Benz Singapore. With the split of Daimler AG into Mercedes-Benz AG and Daimler Truck AG, the road to a split of the warehouse setup was paved,” said a spokesperson for DTSEA. “This separation has been worked on over the last two years, and since June 1, 2024 we now have an independent warehouse setup for Mercedes-Benz Trucks in the region.”

The service parts are being moved to the distribution network supported by a range of logistics providers. TVS SCS is hanlding local truck transport and air shipments, while DHL looks after courier services. Ocean-going freight is being handled by Hapag Lloyd, Cosco, Maersk and OOCL.

TVS said it is supporting operations with a customised IT suite based on an online platform that provides inventory visibility and ordering from the Daimler Truck Parts Centre in the region. The IT platform also provides DPTC with inventory management, parts replenishment ordering, parts pricing, invoicing and data analytics.

“We are thrilled to move into a dedicated commercial vehicles warehouse and by doing so, to focus entirely on the needs of our Daimler Truck customers in the region,” said Christoph Stemmer, vice-president of customers services and parts at Mercedes-Benz Bus and Special Truck Sales South East Asia. “TVS SCS has been chosen as our logistics partner due to their unique service offer and their performance as a dedicated and passionate warehouse and logistics provider. We are looking forward to a successful collaboration.”

DTSEA said the collaboration between TVS SCS aims to address critical operational objectives:

• Establish a robust logistics solution for distributing spare parts and related items

• Streamline supply chain operations, servicing Daimler Truck South East Asia’s distributor network, dealers and workshops in 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific region from its strategic logistics centre in Singapore

• Efficient management of 8,000 SKUs and 65,000 order lines annually, accommodating a diverse range of parts with varying storage requirements

• Ensure smooth transportation across multiple modes, including air, FCL and LTL loads, and road transport, coupled with customs clearance and Dangerous Goods (DG) declarations

• TVS SCS is delivering a customised IT solution suite, centred on a bespoke online platform thatprovides inventory visibility and ordering to Daimler Truck Parts Centre (DTPC) Southeast Asia customers. The IT solution also provides DTPC SEA with an integrated capability for inventory management, parts replenishment ordering, parts pricing, invoicing and data analytics.
