The MAN eTGX etruck will be used to delivery lithium batteries from Dräxlmaier’s Leipzig battery facility to the nearby Porsche plant

MAN’s commercial vehicle rental company Business Fleet Services (BFS) is leasing the MAN eTGX etruck to logistics company Spedition Elflein, which will then carry out the deliveries for Dräxlmaier’s from its site in Leipzig. Dräxlmaier’s opened the Leipzig battery facility in September 2023 for high-voltage battery systems for the all-electric Porsche Macan. The facility is approximately 5km from the Porsche assembly plant.

MAN Truck & Bus said the etruck will transport an average payload of 15.5 tonnes. Two more etrucks are due for delivery by the end of the year to delivery batteries from the Dräxlmaier facility to the Porsche plant.

“We are pleased that the supply of the Macan production in Leipzig is being expanded to include this innovative e-truck from MAN,” said Albrecht Reimold, head of production and logistics at Porsche. “The MAN eTGX proves that even large components such as battery modules can be transported electrically in large quantities.”

MAN Truck & Bus said it is the only commercial vehicle maker to produce an electric low-loader semitrailer tractor as standard. The truck can tow trailers with an interior height of 3 metres and thus transport significantly more volume, according to the company. It added this is useful for the automotive industry, which often has to transport lightweight but large-volume parts. In addition, the MAN eTruck offers the shortest wheelbase in its class, making it compatible with all types of trailer.

Stefanie Kotschenreuther, managing director of Spedition Elflein said: “We are delighted to be the first transport and logistics service provider to use the new MAN etruck. This step underlines our commitment to sustainable transport solutions. Etrucks will make a further important contribution to the decarbonisation of the logistics industry.”
