New Gefco HR head in UK wants to attract graduates to logistics

Gefco has announced John Smith as its new head of human resources. He will be responsible for the supervision of the company’s UK operations. He will also push a scheme to attract more young talent to the logistics field.

Smith worked as senior human resources business partner at logistics firm Wincanton, before joining Gefco in June of this year.

At Wincanton, he managed a team of 13 direct reports: these included HR business partners, regional contract and site HR managers.

One of Smith’s priorities is the expansion of the Gefco UK Graduate Programme, a scheme designed to attract graduates interested in pursuing a career in a global supply chain company. He has appointed an HR business parter specifically to oversee ‘talent management’.

Smith said: “A particular focus is to attract bright young graduates and school leavers to Gefco by offering them an unparalleled opportunity to learn on the job through both our existing Graduate Programme, and new apprenticeship and internship initiatives.”
