KN_hq_SwitzerlandLogistics provider Kuehne + Nagel has signed a contract with BMW for the management of spare parts logistics services.

The company said that from the beginning of November it will support BMW’s complex spare parts logistics operations at the carmaker’s central distribution centre (CDC) in Bavaria. The centre handles parts for onward supply to BMW’s regional distribution centres worldwide, which in turn deliver to local authorised BMW dealers in individual countries.

Kuehne + Nagel said it would grow from there to take over operations at three CDCs in Lower Bavaria.

In addition to goods receiving activities, the logistics provider will handle the control and packing of spare parts, as well as dealing with storage, commissioning and outgoing goods.

“For many years, Kuehne + Nagel has been a strong partner to the automotive industry,” said Jens Wollesen, member of the management board of Kuehne + Nagel responsible for Contract Logistics. “This new contract with BMW Group underlines our comprehensive expertise, especially within the complex area of spare parts logistics. We are very pleased to expand our partnership with BMW Group.”

Kuehne + Nagel has been providing services for BMW since 1999 and operates a number of logistics centres for the carmaker in Germany. At its supply centre in Wörth, for example, the company handles the distribution of parts inbound to BMW’s Dingolfing, Landshut and Leipzig plants.

BMW declined to comment on the new agreement.
