Following the announcement that it was setting up a joint venture with China’s Jinbei Automotive at the end of 2014, DB Schenker has joined the company to break ground on the site of a warehouse facility in the Tiexi district of Shenyang, which will serve the automotive industry.
Schenker Logistics Jinbei has not revealed the investment figure in the facility, but it will consist of two warehouses that will cover a total area of more than 42,000 sq.m. Scheduled to be operational by November this year, it is located in one of the main automotive clusters in China and will serve a range of OEMs and tier suppliers. The joint venture already provides services to a number of automotive customers in Shenyang, including BMW Brilliance Automotive and Toyota.
For BMW Brilliance, that includes moving complete knockdown (CKD) kits from the Leipzig-Wahren transshipment terminal in Germany on a 23-day journey via the Trans-Siberian Railway to Shenyang.
DB Schenker said the new facility would provide the full range of logistics services including: customised logistics solutions; supply chain management; pick and pack; just-in-time/sequenced inventory; inventory management; quality control; cross docking and vendor managed inventory.
