Mitsubishi is moving its European head office from Amsterdam in the Netherlands to the same location as its parts distribution centre and assembly plant in Born in the southeast of the country.
The move comes as part of a major restructuring of Mitsubishi’s European unit which will see various other vehicle related functions, such as sales, marketing and business planning, relocated to Japan.
It will mean the loss of 25% of head office jobs, which the company says will be necessary for process improvement.
“It will be beneficial in the sense that having one location in Born, instead of the current two makes the whole process more effective through synergies,” spokesman Daniel Nacass told Automotive Logistics.
The Amsterdam-based logistics, planning and ordering (LPO) department will now be based at the Born distribution site and integrated with the existing LPO department there, as will what the company calls the “heavily logistics-biased” aftersales management functions, including sales and marketing of parts and accessories, technical service and training.
MME profits were down 18% in 2008 with a further decrease expected this year.
