Acumen Logistics has signed a rolling 12-month contract with Chinese automotive supplier Daimay to receive and distribute headrests to UK automotive manufacturers.

The company will manage the flow of components, which is expected to number 540,000 per year, into its Redditch facility in the UK Midlands and repackage them for just-in-time delivery to the OEMs using its own distribution fleet. The company is also providing quality control support at both the Redditch facility and at OEM customer sites.

“Onsite quality inspectors review lineside stock and a team of inspection/quality verification staff at the warehousing facility provide first line checks,” said commercial director, John Stocker. “These parts are for OEMs only, no aftermarket shipments will be made.”

Acumen has been growing its automotive business this year with both inbound and outbound contracts. In June it secured full supplier status for complete inbound movements to all of Johnson Controls Automotive’s UK facilities. The company has grown its own fleet of trucks from five to 60 and established an “all encompassing” lead logistics partnership with hauliers throughout the UK and Europe (read more here).

Last month it also took over finished vehicle carrier Auto UK Logistics to build on the finished vehicle side of its automotive logistics offering. http://www.automotivelogisticsmagazine.com/Newsitem.aspx?aid=418#story
