Automotive Logistics welcomed Monica Garcia, GM’s director of global purchasing and supply chain in Mexico, to the Red Sofa at ALSC Mexico 2024. Overseeing a multi-billion-dollar budget, Garcia shared how GM is navigating a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
Garcia highlighted the importance of building resilient supply chains by extending partnerships beyond tier-one suppliers. By fostering transparency and open communication, GM aims to ensure stability in an industry often disrupted by logistical challenges.
“Our focus is on long-term relationships, sharing production forecasts, and working with suppliers to align on capacity and investment planning,” said Garcia. This collaborative approach enables GM to navigate market fluctuations while driving efficiency and sustainability.
She encouraged suppliers to embrace innovation and challenge existing processes to minimise risks and improve network design. “We want our suppliers to partner with us in finding sustainable solutions to meet our zero-emissions goals,” she noted.
As GM advances its EV strategy, the company is doubling down on its partnerships, urging suppliers to collaborate on innovative technologies and sustainable practices. “It’s about being open, adaptable, and always ready to evolve together,” Garcia concluded.
