At Automotive Logistics & Supply Chain Mexico 2024, Rubén Ballesteros, head of logistics at MG México, sat down on the Red Sofa with Christopher Ludwig, chief content officer, Automotive Logistics to discuss how the carmaker is reshaping its logistics strategy in Mexico’s competitive market.
The OEM has built a supply chain tailored to the Mexican market, including a large distribution centre in San Luis Potosí which handles more than half a million spare parts and has static capacity vehicle distribution centres with around 40,000 units and a dedicated truck fleet for distribution.
MG México has become the first Chinese car brand to exceed 100,000 customers in the country, and insourcing logistics has allowed the carmaker to reduce bottlenecks and ensure smoother port operations. Ballesteros added that insourcing logistics has allowed MG México to make flexible decisions faster.
While Mexico’s automotive industry stood at a pivotal crossroads, the Automotive Logistics & Supply Chain Mexico 2024 conference took place for the tenth year in Mexico City from November 12-14. More than 550 industry leaders converged to explore essential themes like nearshoring, digital transformation and supply chain resiliency.
