BLG Automobile Logistics has invested €1.5m ($1.8m) to extend its technical centre at the inland port of Duisburg by 2,000 sq.m.
The facility, which first opened in 2006, now covers 6,500 sq.m and provides storage, handling and technical processing for a range of customers using the port. It also provides services that include inspections and repairs, installations and modifications, as well as refinishing.
The opening of the extended facility was marked with an an event at the beginning of December (pictured).
Michael Bünning, managing director of BLG Automobile Logistics, said the additional capacity was absolutely necessary because of the fast growth of customer interest in the technical processing carried out at the centre.
The company installed a regional delivery centre in Duisburg for the VW Group and Bünning said that a lot of remarketing and fleet companies had switched to using the centre to take advantage of the technical services on offer.
Currently, BLG provides technical services in Duisburg for some 25,000 vehicles annually.
