US road hauler, Daseke, which specialises in open-deck and oversize road transport, is taking over rival open-deck and heavy haul provider, Bulldog Hiway Express.
According to Daseke, the latest merger means it can offer the industry 2,800 tractors and more than 5,800 open-deck trailers to customers, including those in the commercial vehicle, and high and heavy sectors. Daseke is the second largest open-deck and speciality carrier in North America behind Landstar.
“Bulldog is a great match with our family of companies,” said Don Daseke, president and CEO. “They have an extremely enviable position in the markets they serve and are dedicated to customer service, as well as their own employees. What’s more, their safety scores are impeccable. something that is carried across the line with all Daseke companies.”
Bulldog’s president and CEO, Phil Byrd, said the added capacity and capabilities would bring value to its existing customers.
“This is the right decision at the right time for Bulldog,” added Byrd.
The latest purchase follows on from Daseke’s buyout of Lone Star Transportation last October.
