Hödlmayr International has started using a yard management system supplied by software expert Inform to handle operations at its headquarters in Schwertberg, Austria
Hödlmayr, which provides finished vehicle road and rail haulage services, said it would expand the application of Inform’s Syncrotess yard management system to its three other locations in Austria, at Vienna, Wiener Neustadt and Graz, before rolling it out across other locations in Europe over the next four years.
The company transports around 1.7m vehicle units a year from assembly plants and ports to the fleet owners, vehicle dealers or end customers at home. The Inform software is expected to manage a total of 500,000 vehicles out of that 1.7m total across all sites after the roll out.
Hödlmayr has a fleet of 580 vehicle carriers, 20 block trains and a network of 12 vehicle distribution centres (VDCs). At those centres, which cover a total of 1.3m sq.m, it stores, maintains, checks, services and modifies new and used cars, as well as commercial vehicles and equipment.
“It was important to us that we create a uniform, flexible IT solution for all compounds of the Hödlmayr Group,” said Robert Horvath, CFO and board member of Hödlmayr International. “The standard solution from Inform supports us in this. This allows us to react independently, flexibly and as quickly as possible to new processes and customer requirements.”
According to Inform, the Syncrotess software package promises greater efficiency for Hödlmayr’s storage and movement of vehicles through its VDCs.
“Mathematical optimisation algorithms and artificial intelligence processes will recalculate by the second, which tasks need to be carried out with which resources, where and in which order, so that the respective location operates optimally,” says Hartmut Haubrich, director of vehicle logistics.
