Global logistics provider DSV has officially opened a logistics centre in Homburg, Germany. The 22,000 sq.m warehouse consolidates operations from three previous branches in the southern Saarland region – two in Saarbrücken and one in Saarlouis. The move also means DSV is bundling freight forwarding and contract logistics services provided under its Road and Solutions divisions under one roof at the Homburg site.
Operations will support the automotive aftermarket but it is a multi-user facility and will also provide services for industrial products and retail goods.
More than 1,900 shipments on 220 trucks are being handled every day at the facility.
The site covers an area of 65,000 sq.m, including a warehouse and cross-dock terminal, which between them cover 20,000 sq.m, and a 2,000 sq.m office building. DSV Property developed the site in partnership with construction firm Beilefelder Goldbeck.
DSV said in a statement that the logistics complex had the potential to double the number of workstations. Across the three previous facilities, DSV employed 130 people but the new centre can accommodate up to 250 employees, subject to demand.
