PSA Cargo Solutions is going to be supplying lead logistics services for Hyundai Motor in Singapore under a new contract signed this month.
Hyundai Motors is due to start making electric vehicles (EVs) this year at its smart factory and service centre in the Jurong Innovation District in Singapore under its division, Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS). PSA Cargo Solutions will be overseeing all supporting logistics processes for that production. It will be directly providing inbound port-to-plant transport, warehousing and pre-assembly services, as well as control tower management and regulatory compliance.
“Smart manufacturing starts with smart logistics – efficient, innovative, resilient and sustainable,” said Dr Chi Youngcho, president and chief innovation officer of Hyundai Motor Group. “With its expansive portfolio of global nodes, growing capabilities and networks in cargo solutioning, and strong commitment to innovation and sustainability, PSA is the ideal partner for HMGICS to grow and co-create new supply chain solutions for our mobility products.”
The innovation centre in Singapore, which will be finished by the end of 2022, combines a customer centre with a small-scale manufacturing facility. Hyundai said that customers will be able to purchase vehicles online, after which production will immediately start using Hyundai’s on-demand technology. The customers can then watch their car being manufactured at HMGICS. Once the car is ready for delivery, it will be transferred to the Sky Track test zone, where customers can test drive the vehicle on a 620-metre track.
According to Hyundai, the facility will utilise the latest industry 4.0 smart technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT) and automated robotics.
The company said that logistics and assembly lines within HMGICS will be highly automated to establish a safe and efficient work environment and provide flexible manufacturing in response to market trends for EVs.
