Following last week’s news that Dr Detlef Trefzger has resigned as DB Schenker’s member of the Board for Contract Logistics/SCM, it has been announced that he will take up a new role on the management board for Kuehne + Nagel with global responsibility for the Contract Logistics business unit. The new role will begin in March 2013.

Trefzger replaces Dirk Reich, who steps down from the role immediately, but “will be at the chairman’s disposal for special tasks until further notice”. Until Trefzger takes up his position in March Kuehne + Nagel International’s CEO Reinhard Lange will be responsible for Contract Logistics.

“Over many years Dirk Reich has shaped the development of the Contract Logistics business unit and organization would like to thank him for his valuable contributions during 18 years with Kuehne + Nagel,” said the company in statement.

Trefzger, who was also recently responsible for Global Airfreight and Global Oceanfreight, had been with Schenker for eight years.

“We are very pleased that Dr Trefzger will join our group,” said Karl Gernhardt, chairman of Kuehne + Nagel International. “In our industry he is highly respected for his proven expertise and leaders skills. Contract Logistics is an important pillar our company and we are convinced that the further strategic development of this business unit will in good hands with Dr Trefzger.”

DHL Supply Chain has appointed Jeroen van Oekel to the role of vice president of Business Development in Asia Pacific for the Automotive, Engineering and Manufacturing sectors.

He moves over from Schenker’s Business Development for Automotive in China and replaces Suzie Mitchell who has been newly appointed to the role of country manager for DHL Supply Chain Philippines.

DHL will benefit from his expertise as the region’s automotive industry continues to grow on the back of expanding domestic demand and increasing development of export bases,” said Paul Graham, CEO, Asia Pacific, DHL Supply Chain.

Van Oekel has also served as director of Business Development, Automotive China, for Ceva Logistics.

Suzie Mitchel has moved to her new role in the Philippines to replace Olive Ramos who has relinquished her role as Country Manager after 17 years with DHL Supply Chain to pursue new challenges outside the logistics industry, though she will provide ongoing consultancy support to DHL.

Mitchell brings 15 years of experience in the logistics industry. In 2010, she became the vice president for the Energy and Chemical, Engineering and Manufacturing, and Automotive sectors at DHL.

The establishment of a new joint venture between Neptune Orient Lines division, APL Logistics, and North American logistics provider Vascor, has brought a new role for Umesh Bhanot, vice president of Adani Logistics. He now becomes chief operating officer of APL Logistics Vascor Automotive.

Bill Garrett, president and CEO of Vascor, will serve as CEO of the joint venture and the chairman is Bill Villalon, APL Logistics vice president for Automotive.
