Gaining control in VDCs

Darren Acker from Glovis America said that VDCs were often among the least predictable parts of the outbound supply chain, but that the company was working with partners to improve visibility and optimising scheduling based on vehicle destinations and accessory availability

Low vehicle inventory and the shift to a build-to-order model are redefining the critical roles of vehicle distribution centres and processing terminals. But these centres can also be a ‘black hole’ when it comes to both visibility and predictability in ETAs.

In this session, Glovis America’s Darren Acker and Adrian Jennings from visibility specialist Cognosos share how OEMs and processors are reducing dwell time by optimising scheduling and loading based on geography and transport capacity across road and rail. They discuss visibility and tracking solutions, as well as investing in infrastructure and technology to better equip these terminals, and strategies to mitigate shortages in parts and accessories.
