In conversation with Steve Jernigan, senior director of supply chain, Nissan North America.
It has taken more than a year to set it up, but Nissan now has several important trials underway across North America using electric, high-tech trucks in its logistics. That includes outbound vehicle logistics from the port of Long Beach in California, where it is using Class-8 electric trucks, along with in-plant shuttle runs at its plants in Mississippi and Tennessee, along with inbound trucking trials in the US and soon Mexico. Steve Jernigan, responsible for inbound and vehicle logistics operations across North America, admits that it has been a long journey – but that the data collection on the different equipment and infrastructure requirements will be invaluable in helping the OEM to scale up the pilots.
