Transport and logistics provider Gefco has announced a new partnership with Ford. Under the agreement, the logistics provider will assume responsibility for multi-user, in-night distribution of parts to dealers across several UK regions.
This is the first alliance of its kind to be implemented between the two organisations in the UK. Gefco will operate specialist double deck trailers to regional dealers. For Ford, this will mean multiple departures of roll cages each day, with an anticipated average nightly volume of 195.
“This is great news for Gefco and enables Ford to benefit from an automotive logistics provider equipped with the necessary infrastructure to service this type of operation to the highest possible level,” said managing director of Gefco UK Tristan Balayn.
Gefco has done business with Ford for over a decade in a variety of international markets, including South America, Poland and Russia. It provides outbound finished vehicle logistics for the carmaker, as well as inbound parts distribution and in-line operations.
Balayn also cited the group’s mission to become the lead OEM spare parts carrier in Europe. That ambition is backed up by recent investments, with a significant amount of money poured into double-deck equipment. In May of this year, it also announced the introduction of Cadis oTMS technology, becoming the first logistics provider offering the ability to track and trace groupage deliveries at each stage of the process. This real-time electronic proof of delivery system allows for knowledge of a delivery’s exact GPS location and has therefore been instrumental in effecting progress in the management of supply chains.
