Automotive freight forwarder and logistics provider, Horizon International Cargo, has announced it will be running and managing its own less-than-container load (LCL) groupage services on a weekly basis to the UK from Chicago and its recently opened New York office.
It means the handling of both air and ocean consignments at the same warehouses at the US locations, which the company said will enable customers to change the mode of transport easily, cutting delays for automotive cargo with no additional expense.
“Working with the fastest transit times ensures maximum speed to market, which is critical with the supply chain,” said Martin Carter, Horizon’s freight product manager – UK. “Our handling and single receiving point for both air and ocean also minimises handling as well as costs and ensures there is no loss or damage.”
Horizon said the aim of the service was to replicate LCL services that have been in operation from Asia for a number of years, where the company maintains control from end to end of the supply chain. It said shipments were monitored throughout the complete transport process, with containers loaded and unloaded at their own facilities, preventing loss and damage and ensuring that all shipments are inspected prior to loading and during unloading.
