Third-party logistics provider Kerry Logistics has further extended its reach into the EMEA market with the acquisition of South African-based freight forwarder, Shipping and Airfreight Services (SAS).
In a statement, Kerry highlighted the importance of South Africa as a manufacturing hub for the global automotive market.
“South Africa’s economy has an important standing on the African continent with excellent trade lanes not only to the Chinese market but also the large exporting economies of the European Union,” said Thomas Blank, MD of Europe at Kerry Logistics.
Asian-based Kerry Logistics has been expanding services into the EMEA market over recent years with new acquisitions, such as that of Tuvia, and expansion on existing contracts, including with tier supplier Continental.
Carla Laue, MD of SAS, said: “SAS looks forward to joining the Kerry Logistics family and adding first-hand knowledge of the African freight forwarding market to Kerry Logistics’ global network. Together, we will work to bring South Africa even closer to markets around the world.”
Over the past year, Kerry Logistics has been growing its network and services under the Belt and Road initiative, which is designed to boost infrastructure and trade links with Europe, Central Asia and Africa.
