Dr Karl Sommer is the new head of logistics at BMW. Johan Schuberthan has also moved back to the logistics department and will now report to Dr Sommer. In a separate move, Ralf Hattler (pictured) has moved to purchasing for the company.
Paul Tay has been appointed as Vice President and Managing Director of Asia Pacific at Ryder. He has more than 15 years experience in both the contract and international supply chain management industry, and was most recently Vice President of Consolidation for APL Logistics. Before to that, he served as Vice President of Greater China for APL Logistics.
Con-way Freight has appointed Paul Lorensen as Vice President of Operations, Central region. Lorensen has been at the company for 20 years and was a member of the start-up team that launched Con-way Southwest Express in 1989. His most recent position was Director of Solutions Engineering for Con-way Freight in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Michael Wheeler is the new Vice President of Transportation for US rail provider Norfolk Southern. He will report to Mark Manion, Executive Vice President, Operations. Mr Wheeler holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee and an MBA from Virginia Tech.
Tad Bauer is moving from his position as Executive Vice President of Marketing and Logistics at US commercial tyre dealer Bauer Built to become Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of the Tire Division. Jim Fenn, formerly Executive Vice President of Sales and Manufacturing, will take over Bauer’s former position, and will manage the company’s marketing, purchasing, warehousing, transportation, distribution and manufacturing activities.
