Swiss-based logistics provider Kuehne + Nagel is using a cloud-based logistics platform provided by Transporean to simplify the communication between its customers and carriers. The company said the integrated platform would increase operational efficiency and provide real time transparency in its full truckload (FTL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) movements in Europe.
Transporeon claims that with its logistics software companies can shorten idle and waiting times, reduce empty miles and streamline processes, with associated cost savings.
Kuehne + Nagel said that its carriers will have real-time access to its transport requirements across Europe and be able to respond to the demand more quickly with their available capacity. Kuehne + Nagel will also be able to more easily connect with additional carriers.
“The new process allows optimising truck load factors, reducing operating costs and environmental impact,” said Dr Nils Wemhoener, senior vice-president, operations overland at Kuehne + Nagel. “Using the Transporeon platform will therefore drive efficiencies for our customers and carriers.”
The move to a digital logistics platform in Europe was influenced by the success Kuehne + Nagel saw when it took over US logistics provider ReTrans last year. ReTrans is a leading non-asset brokerage provider of intermodal transport, as well as FTL and LTL services in the US, and uses a digital platform to manage its services.
The rollout of the Transporean system in Europe will begin in France and is expected to be in place there by the end of September.
Last month global asset firm TPG took a majority stake in Transporean.
