South Africa’s Imperial Logistics International has appointed Jürgen Mues from Swiss Railways as chief operating officer (COO) starting on March 15th.
Imperial has strong operations with “unparalleled capabilities and track records” in their own fields, but few of them exploit their potential across all available locations, said CEO Hakan Bicil.
“In order to realise Imperial Logistics’ ambitious growth plans, we need to take these businesses, and create a framework that will support their expansion. The creation of this new COO position is a key component in facilitating this growth,” he added.
Mues will assume overall responsibility for all operational aspects of the business, which employs around 9,000 staff at 170 locations in 20 countries throughout Europe, South America and China.
He joins Imperial Logistics from SBB (Swiss Railways) Cargo, where he spent 13 of his 30 years in logistics in a variety of senior posts, most recently as head of production and an executive board member.
Mues said: “Logistics is my passion. I am excited to join the Imperial Logistics team, and have this opportunity to devote my experience, skills and full energy to its future success and growth.”
CEO Bicil added that Mues brings a wealth of experience, plus enthusiasm for innovation and the use of the latest technology.
