NYK Logistics (China) has increased the number of finished vehicle carriers it uses for inland distribution in China with the delivery of 100 trailer units from Lohr and tractor units provided by Dongfeng-Nissan Commercial Vehicle.
 
The increase, which brings its total fleet of trailers to 700, is designed to meet the increase in inland transport of finished vehicles in China, and means NYK will rank among the leading foreign-capitalised companies providing finished vehicle logistics services.
 
NYK began moving finished vehicles in China in 2003 and now provides services throughout the country to Chinese, European, and Japanese carmakers with domestic production facilities.
 
“Today Dongfeng-Nissan, BMW, Porsche, Toyota, Geely and Changan Mazda
are among the major OEMs supported by NYK’s inland CBU business,” said Owen Xie, Senior Manager, Automobile Division, NYK Logistics (China). “There is no doubt that, together with our relevant joint ventures, we will
continue to provide them with a high quality service and competitive rates for the promising China market,” he told Automotive Logistics News.
 
Domestic sales of new cars in China have since surpassed 13m units and the increase in import and export activity is stimulating demand for inland transport, which NYK Logistics (China) said it is now in a better position to meet with the most recent acquisition.
 
The company announced the opening of two branches in the inland area along the Yangtze River at the beginning of July – one in Wuhan and another in Wuxi, bringing the number of offices in the country to 12.
 
Another branch was opened in Nanjing in March this year, in part to provide automotive support for Chang’an Mazda Ford, as the carmaker prepared to increase output in the country (read more here).
