Wallenius Wilhelsen has appointed Mike Hynekamp to the newly established role of chief strategy and corporate development officer. He moves from his position as chief operating officer (COO) for logistics services at the ro-ro shipping and vehicle logistics provider.
John Felitto will take over from Hynekamp as COO of logistics services, moving from his current role as senior vice-president of WWL Vehicle Services Americas (VSA).
CEO Lasse Kristoffersen said the creation of the new position will help Wallenius Wilhelmsen grow and transform in a sustainable and digital way as a partner with its customers across the finished vehicle supply chain.
“We have access to digital technology and data that were unthinkable just a few years ago. Our industry has only started to harvest the value creation potential, and we are ready to put this into use, both for our customers and ourselves” says Kristoffersen.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen set up a new digital supply chain services unit last year when it bought all of the outstanding shares in Syngin Technologies. It now provides an online marketplace for the distribution of vehicles, that brings fleet leasing and remarketing companies together with transport providers and repair centres. The platform provides access to a network of more than 2,000 owner-operated truck carriers across the US.
Collaboration and growth
Hynekamp has been with Wallenius in various roles for 17 years. Kirstoffersen said his new role will be to drive necessary changes and developments needed to make the company a premier integrated supply chain partner to its customers.
“Our journey is not solely about operating ships or solving logistics challenges, it is about shaping a future where resilience, collaboration and growth intertwine to build a digital and sustainable company for generations to come,” said Hynekamp.
Felitto started his career with Wallenius Wilhelmsen in July 2001 as vice-president of sales and has held various key commercial and executive management roles in sales, ocean and logistics. The company said he was instrumental in the company’s transition from ocean carrier to full-service logistics provider, and he is currently responsible for all aspects of Vehicle Services Americas (VSA) processing and logistics operations in North America. VSA employs 5000 people at 31 locations handling over 5.5m vehicles annually.
“John has extensive experience, strong leadership acumen and the ability to connect with the organisation and our customers,” said Kristoffersen. “With his dedication to safety, quality and customer service, and his track record on growth and business development, I believe John will bring new, sustainable growth to both our customers and our company.”
