Logistics veteran Sergio Gutierrez has moved to Glovis America as chief operations officer, a newly created role at the finished vehicle logistics provider
Sergio Gutierrez been appointed chief operations officer (COO) at Glovis America. Gutierrez moves to the newly created role at Glovis from his role as executive vice-president and managing director for the North America region at Sesé.
Gutierrez brings 25 years’ experience in automotive logistics and supply chain. Prior to his time with Sesé, Gutierrez was CEO and president of a major vehicle logistics provider operating in Europe and North America. He also spent 11 years at Wallenius Wilhelmsen across the company’s Ocean and (land-based) Solutions divisions, primarily focused on finished vehicle logistics (FVL).
Gutierrez said that experience had given him the privilege of understanding the intricate relationships between client expectations, processing partners and service providers across all modes of transport. “This experience has given me a unique, holistic perspective on how FVL directly impacts success,” he said. “It also forged my belief in the power of collective achievement to deliver outstanding service and transformative experiences to our customers.”
At Glovis America he will be responsible for four key areas of the company’s finished vehicle logistics business: operations, business development, facility and transport planning capacity, and network growth/reworking. Gutierrez will also be strategic lead for the FVL business.
“I want to express my gratitude to Glovis America for trusting me to contribute to this exciting transformation journey,” he said. “I’d like to specifically acknowledge Scott Cornell, CEO; Paul Chang, CEC; and Emerson Lee, head of America. Their leadership has made this organisation a true standard of commitment, service and excellence.”
Gutierrez added that he is honoured to lead an exceptional team of seasoned professionals to execute the logistics provider’s vision. That team includes Darren Acker, who has extensive expertise in FVL across North America, and who will play a pivotal role in advancing Glovis’ operational objectives. It also includes Charles Franklin, “who brings unmatched insight and client engagement capabilities, ensuring we consistently deliver outstanding value”. Additionally, Gutierrez acknowledged Dean Claxton for his extensive and strategic acumen who will drive efforts to expand and strengthen Glovis’ business as part of a broader growth strategy.
“We will spearhead the critical initiatives underpinning our finished vehicle logistics business, focusing on operations, business development, facility and transport capacity, and network growth and rework,” he said. “Our team is committed to achieving excellence and driving sustained success through these four pillars.”
Gutierrez said the FVL team was looking at strategies to enhance performance and sustainability for the future. “While our long-term vision is strong, we are equally focused on continuous improvement and rapid execution,” he said. “We act swiftly to address challenges, seize opportunities, and leverage data for informed decision-making. Most importantly, we reject complacency in all forms.”
Gutierrez said his mission is to expand Glovis America’s reach while driving efficiency across the network through a framework built on operational excellence rooted in a culture of safety, service and productivity, and strategic resource allocation, including transport capacity and quality driven processes supported by cutting-edge facilities across North America, which the company is expanding.
“Our goal is clear: to become the most efficient, reliable, agile, resilient and innovative FVL organisation in the industry,” said Gutierrez.
Glovis America is looking to build on its success in finished vehicle logistics in 2025 and its long-standing partners are going to be central to those volume operations, providing additional capacity and routes. At this year’s Finished Vehicle Logistics North America conference in California, Marisol Vasquez, national manager for vehicle logistics planning at Glovis America, pointed to the importance of closer partnerships, a policy that has paid off for the company.
