US finished vehicle haulier United Road Services along with its owner, The Carlyle Group, and other investors has acquired Colorado-based Fleet Car Carriers for an undisclosed sum.
Based in Romulus, Michigan, United Road will now operate out of more than 90 locations and is projected to move more than 4.5m new, used and speciality vehicles in 2019, according to a company statement.
“Acquiring an organisation of Fleet Car’s stature is a game-changer for United Road," said Mark Anderson, president and CEO of United Road. “Fleet Car’s reputation for customer service and the dedication of its employees and owner-operators mirror our own.”
Commenting on the location of the companies, Kathleen McCann (pictured), United Road’s executive chairman, added: “United Road will be much stronger in several regions of the US going forward. When integrated, we will also have a national network of company-owned maintenance facilities that will further support our goals of on-time vehicle delivery and driver safety.
“Importantly, United Road’s patented logistics platform and national sales centre will enhance Fleet Car’s new vehicle customer base by filling empty backhaul miles with remarketed volumes.”
The Carlyle Group acquired United Road Services from Charlesbank Capital Partners for an undisclosed sum in September 2017.
“We have had a productive first year with United Road in our portfolio and are delighted to close on this compelling acquisition,” said Adam Glucksman, a managing director with Carlyle.
Founded in 1998, United Road serves 10,000-plus customers – including manufacturers, retailers, finance and leasing companies, rental agencies, auctions, web-based logistics firms and individuals.
