US third-party transport and supply chain management provider, ProTrans International, has moved to a new automotive parts handling facility in San Diego, California, that will support transport and border processing for goods in and out of Mexico.
ProTrans has more than 2,000 sq.m in operational space there currently and said it had the option to almost double its footprint at the leased facility, based at Camino Maquiladora. The crossdock has 10 dock doors and a fenced 1.2 hectares of parking space.
“It provides initial greater capacity with room to expand,” said Tim Wells, the company’s director for procurement/carrier development. “It also provides improved throughput resulting in efficiency [and] therefore lower costs. This location has better access to the interstate system, the border and the airport as well.”
The latest facility follows one the company opened in Houston last year, also supporting border processing. It also has plans for a new centre in Greer, South Carolina. Details of that facility will be revealed in coming weeks.
The company has 24 service centres in North America.
