Stellantis has expanded its remanufactured service parts range in North America, now offering 1m reconditioned parts across 35 product lines. This expansion, launched six months ago in partnership with B-Parts, aims to provide faster shipping, a six-month warranty, and lower-cost alternatives to new parts.

Stellantis has expanded the range of remanufactured service parts to dealerships and service points in the US. Having launched the Sustainera range there six months ago in collaboration with B-Parts, an e-commerce platform that supplies used automotive parts from certified dismantler centres, Stellantis is now offering 1m reconditioned used automotive parts in the US with fast shipping and warranty.

Jones announces developments for the Sustainera service parts range at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo in Last Vegas.

Alison Jones, senior vice-president of global circular economy at Stellantis, announced the expansion and the carmaker’s vision for remanufactured, repaired, reused and recycled parts in a keynote speech at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo in Last Vegas this week (November 5-6).

As well as the US, Stellantis is offering Sustainera remanufactured parts in Canada and Mexico. ”To increase our remanufacturing position in these markets, we have optimised our distribution model in Canada and are implementing enhanced core management solutions in Mexico,” said Jones.

Sustainera parts are now available across 35 product lines, with recent additions including air suspension compressors, axle CV half shafts, 8 and 9-speed transmission valve bodies, touch screen displays, amplifiers, Tigershark 2.4-litre engines and PHEV battery packs for Jeep Wrangler. The parts are locally sourced from over 10 different states, and compatible with over 60 car makes, according to Stellantis.

Decarbonising the aftermarket

The carmaker maintains that the reconditioned parts have the same performance and warranty as genuine Mopar parts but which come with a lower carbon footprint and more affordable price compared to the equivalent new parts. The Sustainaera team is also improving the sustainability of the logistics services used to ship the parts, according to Stellantis. That includes increased use of returnable dunnage for both OEM and remanufactured parts, allowing stacked units in trailers versus the previous cardboard that is one-level loading. Jones said there has been less damage returns and reshipments for Mopar-brand parts. The carmaker is also implementing a reverse logistics core collection process direct to the remanufacturing supplier facility, instead of consolidation at a Stellantis facility.

B-Part also ensures a six-month warranty and delivers the parts in under five days, with a 14-day returns policy through its e-commerce platform which can be used by professional service centres and individual end-customers. The company said its inventory is sourced from certified dismantler centres.

B-Parts works with both salvage yards and carriers to ensure a quick delivery, according to Stellantis, leveraging its experience from over ten years in the business. “We have service level agreements with our partners where we aim to have a part in transit within 1-2 business days, combined with nationwide logistics coverage to deliver via ground and freight,” said Jones. “B-Parts back-office is also designed to ensure proper tracking of each and single order we process.”

Stellantis added that it had already set up a recycling channel for alloy wheels in the North America with its casting plants. It explained that end-of-life wheels are collected directly from dealers and then melted down to be used as secondary raw aluminium to manufacture powertrain and chassis components at its casting plants in Kokamo, Indiana (US) and Toronto, Ontario (Canada).

Stellantis said that establishing a closed loop for the material avoids waste and integrates the aluminium into the production process in another form. It is doing the same for plastics recovered and recycled from body parts (specifically facias), and for other precious metals recovered from catalytic converters in US and Canada.

Earlier this year Stellantis expanded the range of locally remanufactured service parts for supply to its dealerships and service points in Brazil.
