Bergé Automotive Logistics has been recognised with a European supplier award from Toyota Motor Europe for its management of the carmaker’s vehicle logistics centre at the Port of Sagunto, near Valencia on Spain’s west coast.

Bergé, which is a subsidiary of Grupo Bergé y Cia, has managed the centre since April 2008 when Toyota started using the port, and handles vehicle preparation, the installation of accessories and customization, as well as transport to the dealer network in the Spanish market for both Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

Bergé currently distributes 550,000 vehicles per year with a fleet of 420 trucks carrying-vehicles, and manages five other centres in Spain, at Santander, Vigo, Tarragona, Madrid and Seville. Automotive shipments have been processed through Sagunto since 2004, with terminal development there supported by the nearby Port Authority of Valencia.

The port of Sagunto has gradually gained ground as an entry point for mostly Asian brands distributed to the Iberian Penínusla, and for trans-shipment to other Mediterranean markets. As an example, in April Suzuki moved its operational headquarters for vehicle imports to Sagunto from Barcelona.

The terminal for this activity is also managed by a subsidiary of Grupo Bergé y Cia – Carport Sagunto. It will house between 5,000 and 7,000 units and brings the total number of brands operating within Carport Sagunto to nine, comprising Toyota, Toyota Gibraltar, Lexus, Kia Iberia, Honda, Volvo, Ford, Fiat and Suzuki.
