Global logistics provider, UTi Worldwide, has opened a new road and air transport facility near Heathrow Airport, outside London, in the UK.
The 3,000-square-metre site is UTi’s main air and road facility in the country and offers X-ray screening and bonded storage amidst a range of other offerings, including dangerous and refrigerated goods handling.
UTi said it has expanded its gateway operation in the UK and the facility will be used for consolidation of air cargo to and from its other UK locations on a 24-hour, 7 day a week basis.
“Following a lengthy search for the right facility for our air operations close to Heathrow Airport, we are very confident that this new facility delivers on all fronts,” said Barbara Kearney, UTi vice president, UK and Ireland.
The company said there would now be space for contract logistics activities to complement its freight forwarding and customs brokerage operations.
The new site will employ around 60 employees.
