BMW Group BeLux is continuing its tender for overnight distribution of spare parts with Yusen Logistics from the logistics provider’s Herantals facility in Belgium. The parts, which include those for Mini passenger cars and BMW motorcycles, are shipped to 175 BMW dealerships in Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg.
Four trucks call at the Herantals facility every evening from BMW’s distribution centre in Krefeld, Germany with parts for sorting. Yusen sorts and sequences them before they are loaded onto one of 17 milk runs, which deliver those parts to car and motorcycle service points throughout the night. This enables BMW service engineers to have the required spare parts at the beginning of the working day.
“Our continuous drive for improvement through the kaizen process was certainly a contributing factor in this decision,” Hugo Van Herck, director of contract logistics at Yusen Logistics Benelux, told Automotive Logistics News. “As BMW delivers all parts in bulk, with metal components unpacked, Yusen’s expertise in the handling and sorting of BMW parts is particularly appreciated by our customer.”
