Rui (Richard) Zhu has moved from his role as senior director of supply chain at Chery Jaguar Land Rover (CJLR) to take up a new position (effective June 16th) at the China division of tier one engine and drivetrain parts supplier, Schaeffler, as vice president of logistics.
Zhu was at the Chery-JLR joint venture for four years and managed material planning and logistics. He was responsible for material supply for vehicle and engine production, including inbound freight as well as finished vehicle distribution and aftersales parts distribution centre management.
Zhu has more than 20 years experience working in logistics, production and materials and this new appointment will not be the first with a tier one parts supplier. Prior to CJLR he worked as supply chain director of Asia Pacific Lear Corporation.
In his new role Zhu will be based at the company’s regional headquarters near Changshu. He will report to Dr Zhang Yilin, CEO of Schaeffler Greater China and Michael Berger, senior vice-president of corporate logistics, Shaeffler Group.
In its most recent revenue report for the first quarter of 2017, published last month, Schaeffler showed a strong performance in its automotive sector (€2.8 billion) with China contributing 20%. The highest growth rate for the company as a whole was also in the greater China region, which was up by 18.3%.
